"These people are living amid silver streams and placid lakes, the resort of many a weary New Yorker in the heated season."
So wrote a historian about our congregation, which began in 1808. But just as our county has been undergoing renewal more recently, so has our congregation! We are becoming the HAVEN that God meant us to be- a harbor from the waves and winds of life apart from God.
"How so?", you ask. By understanding that a relationship with God provides the focal point for all human beings- we are made in the image of God. An orientation, which was turned upside-down in the Garden, but restored through obedience at Calvary. We enter the harbor of God's presence by confessing our sin, profess Jesus as our Savior, and purpose to follow Him daily.
But God has made us a shelter in a way that goes beyond words- we seek to demonstrate the peace of God in all the relationships of life. You would expect to see it in the way we worship God, and as we relate to one another as brothers and sisters in Christ. But it carries over into our home, school, business, and friendships. Jesus never promised us freedom from problems, just His presence in the midst of them. Certainly that makes all the difference. Not only for us, but those around us. The Lord is able to change the storm to a whisper and guide us to the HAVEN He has prepared for us.
White Lake Congregation’s Statement of purpose is:
To bring people to Jesus and membership in His family, develop them to Christ-like maturity, and equip them for their ministry in the church and life mission in the world, in order to magnify God’s name.
